Raising Conscious Children For A Sustainable Earth, by Kirsty Greenshields

I was in the supermarket this afternoon with my two girls, and as we walked past the eggs section, Abi asked me

“Mum, why would people buy cage eggs?”

My reply was “Often they don’t think about the consequences to the chicken. They just want to buy the cheapest eggs”.

“Why?” she asks. “Wouldn’t they know it’s not good for the chickens to be kept in cages, and then they don’t lay such good eggs, which means we’re they’re not eating good quality food?”

Abi was blessed to have her own chooks, who regularly gave us free range eggs. If it’s not possible for the children to have chickens though, you can still teach them that ‘happy chickens’ produce more nutritious eggs. Happy chickens are those who are allowed to roam, experience sunlight, scratch in the grass and dirt – those who do the things chickens are meant to do. It could be a small, conscious change on your behalf as a parent. AND when you provide this example to your children, you are providing yourself with the gift of better nutrition!

It doesn’t take much to raise the next generation of amazing people. They get it. All we have to do is make conscious choices and they will notice. Then we can be sure we’re leaving our earth in good hands.

How awesome it is that your little girls are aware of where eggs come from and the different types of eggs laid. I am hoping to have chickens when we move this year! 🙂 Like the website and will for sure be back to read more! 🙂
